Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure which involves movement or transplantation of hair follicles from one part of the body to the balding part. These parts are known as donor site and recipient site respectively. The procedure is mainly used to treat the problem of male pattern baldness and is minimally invasive in nature. During the first 10 days after the hair transplant procedure some of the hair that have been transplanted may fall off due to trauma of relocation. This process is referred to as shock loss. The hair start growing from the moved follicles about two to three months later. The thickening of hair however happens for the next 6 to 9 months after normal growth.

Risks and side effects

One of the risks or side effects involved in hair transplantation is shock loss or hair thinning. This is however just a temporary effect. One may lose 50 to 100 hair everyday which leads to bald patches. But with proper care and getting treatment done from a recognised surgeon can minimize the chances of these side effects. In some cases, patient may also experience infection, excessive bleeding and scarring.
